“You Have Been Lied to About Your Blog Stats”

When I surf around the interwebs I see all kinds of people bragging about the length of their…um…blogs. Some people prefer to measure their Google PageRank, some prefer to brag about the number of comments, some prefer to boast about their cool theme and even others take pride in their traffic.

But if your goal is to make money online, none of those stats really make any difference.

In fact, focusing just on those things can rob you of money. Focus on traffic and you’ll end up spending your time at a social networking site that can get you thousands of daily hits, but none of them will buy anything. Focus on generating comments and the same five people will visit your blog again and again leaving comments. Focus on having the coolest theme and you’ll have a great theme and empty pockets. Page rank will get you top rankings and maybe even traffic, but won’t necessarily make you any money.

“There is Only One Stat that Matters”

There is really only one stat that matters: Subscribers. If you collect enough leads on a daily basis you can write your own ticket in income. Subscribers are the key to making money blogging.

When you focus on generating subscribers everything else will fall into place: PageRank, Traffic, Income.

“What’s Your ‘Aaron Number’?”

So how do you determine whether your web business is growing or declining? Take a look at your Aaron Number. (Humbly named for yours truly.)

Your Aaron number is the number of your RSS susbcribers + the number of double opt-in subscribers you have.

To see whether your blog/website is growing or declining, compare your Aaron number from 1 week ago to your Aaron number today. I also like to look at 1 month, 3 months and one year.

The more leads you are capturing, the faster your site is growing.
