This is interesting–though I am not sure if I will like it or not.
http://www.IconBuffet.com is a social networking site built around the sharing of web icons among members. You can sign up for free and send and receive icons from other members.
If you have a business model where you build websites or sell graphics, this might be a great place to get leads. On the other hand, you may end up doing lots of work for free for almost no results.
I will use it when I want to get new icon and icon ideas.
If you have more experience with Icon Buffet, let me know below.

2Hi Aaron,
I’ve never used Icon Buffet before, and I’m not sure I’m going to start now. It is not very hard to make some kind of custom icon using the gimp, for example, and how many icons do you really need? Now, if you were really into graphics, web design, etc, this site might help you. However, I’m skeptical. I just don’t think people see icons as being that important.
Nonetheless, thanks for the post!

3Never heard of this, and my first reaction was do I need another social networking site! Like David, I don’t think I would use this.It could be useful for people who want to use icons on their sites or for marketing

4Never heard of it and would need to see how it can help me in my marketing.
For the time being my focus will be on going back to basics and taking a step by step to build a good business model. But I’ll read what they offer for a future reference if need be.

5Interesting. I haven’t heard of it before. Looking at the site it doesn’t look like anything I need right now - but I’ll bookmark it for the future.

6The only thing that interested me about IconBuffet is the anthropological aspect: why do people bother, where is the fun…?
I was never in collecting/exchanging baseball cards or anything like that when I was a kid (probably miss that gene) and I have better hobbies than wasting my time exchanging web-icons. Hence, my first personal judgement: time waster, not for me thanks! + how interesting that this site could become so popular?

7Craig,
That’s pretty much the way I look at it. If someone hires my company to do a site redesign or something, this may be a good place to grab some icons.
Jeroen,
This is probably best for people who design sites regularly.
Everyone,
I promise to give you a better tool next week. Cross my heart.

8It is clearly nagging me as IconBuffet is still on my mind. But I would like to “soften up” my previous comment. I think I do now see a good reason why people would join IconBuffet and why it could be fun.
It is the concept that you have an excuse to start communicating with a stranger in the same community, trying to exchange the icons you don’t have in your collection. That way you can easily make new contacts and hence potentially make new friends. Once you have a few friends amongst the community it could of course also become a rather competitive game of having the most cards.
