Pretty much every day I go over to Google News and see what the top stories are–paying special attention to any that pertain to market niches I am targeting on one of more blogs. In many cases (pretty much once a week) I find a brand new topic that is going to generate traffic over the next few weeks.
One example was when John Edwards was accused of having an affair during his presidential campaign. Since I had a blog relating to marriage I put up a post about it, making sure to target search terms likely to used to find information on the supposed affair.
Over the next week I received 93 search visitors for that post.
One way to spot longer term trends that have low competition now is to use Google Trends. Check it out here:

1Thanks you have just nudged me to remember to keep checking these for writing prompts. I recommend using Micro Niche Finder for blog post titles too but I am sure you have you know all about getting the best keywords and stuff.

2Forest,
I don’t have tons of niche sites. Instead I try to maximize the income from each site and choose big enough niches to make it worth my time. I don’t write very many of the posts personally, but I do on occasion when it makes sense to do so.
By the way…have you signed up for my mentoring program yet? If not, why not? You’re an ideal candidate.

3Hi,
My gosh…what on earth is a blog?
I can’t find out how to get the info on your mentoring I signed up for…
I’m worse than a newbie, I’m also a grandma and I only want to find out how to set up a site, get it hosted, how to design it, up & going, get an on-line payment system for my E-books and it’s very hard to get all this in one spot…Can you help me please?
Thank you
Mary

4Mary,
Why don’t you sign up and then you will be mentored on how to get a blog which is still a website that you can use to market your ebook.
A blog is an online journal. What you are reading is a blog. It is better because it is more interactive and versatile.
today I attended Aaron’s first class session and which i found very informative and different from the usual stuff you get from the so called gurus.
So i hope to see you next Monday for the mentoring.

6Thank you for the nudge, I rarely check google news. I do use google alerts and this reminds me I need to check on this more often
