As you are sitting at your computer reading this I’ll bet there are hundreds of things you COULD be doing to grow your business, aren’t there?

If you’re like most people it seems overwhelming at times (or all the time!)
Here’s your good news: You can succeed online even if you don’t do 90% of the things you COULD be doing.
Yup, you heard that right: 90% of the things most people spend doing on their online business will have little or no impact on their success.
Let that sink in a little.
After helping thousands of people start and profit from an online business I can tell you without a doubt that online success involves doing just a few things very well and virtually ignoring all of the other things out there.
Those things are called “Leverage Points.” A leverage point is just a facet of your business where the payoff is much greater than the effort you put in.
Here are the six key leverage points in an online business:
- Automation
- Product Production
- Lead Generation
- Recruiting, Training and Motivating Others
- Networking
- Strategic Planning
Get everything put on autopilot. Even if it takes more time or money to implement initially, it will pay off in the long run. What are some of the tasks you should have automated?

When you sell someone else’s products you are going to make somewhere between 15% and 50% depending on the product type and commission. When you sell your own product you not only get 100% of the profit, you can recruit thousands of others to promote your product as well giving you 50% or more of their sales.
And the higher value the product, the higher the potential reward. You can sell advertising as your product and earn $25.00 per sale or your can sell training and get 100 times that amount.
It’s a beautiful thing.
Too many bloggers are still ignorant of this basic method to profit from their blog. When you capture a lead–either an RSS subscriber, email subscriber or even a complete profile subscriber (giving you their address, phone, etc.) you are putting money in your bank account. Once someone subscribes you will be able to contact them again and again with your valuable content, moving them from simple visitor to repeat customer.
How many web pages can you build in a day? How many blog posts? How much advertising can you write and place on other websites?
By finding other people to do these things for you (often for a small commission or even free), you are then able to see hundreds of hours of work accomplished with just some guidance from you.
Contacting and becoming friends with others in your market niche will make you a leader in that niche. They will become your affiliates, your cheerleaders and your evangelists. When you launch a product they will help you. When you need defending, they will be there.
Brainstorming, evaluating your statistics and creating new opportunities for your business to grow are essential to your survival, let alone your thriving as a business.
You have already heard that one perfect idea can make you a billionaire–if you’re lucky. What you haven’t heard is that 10 average ideas will make you a millionaire. All it takes is a few average ideas implemented with the leverage I’ve mentioned above and you can easily build a million dollar business over the next year.
OK, “easy” is an oversimplification, but it’s not “ditch diggin’ hard” either.
