This post will open up a new revenue avenue for you while opening your eyes to new ways to make money from your blog.
It all started when I posted my March earnings Tuesday. People had been skeptical that I had earned $3,502.46 in my first full month marketing this blog. I was even accused of lying.
What I pointed out in my earning statement post was simple: There are many ways besides selling advertising to make money blogging.
Jason (a skeptic) added this revealing comment about the way people think of blogging and income:
Those earnings were off freelancing, not off your blog. That is not making money blogging, sorry mate - although the affiliate signups are.
If someone hires me to write an article, I do not count it as blogging income, rather as freelancing income.
In Jason’s mind somehow the thousands of dollars I made last month didn’t count because building a website for someone or providing keyword consulting “doesn’t count” as blog income. Even though all my customers last month came through my blog.
Really? It “doesn’t count”? The bank took the money just fine.
Now it is possible Jason didn’t read the post (tsk…tsk…) and didn’t realize I got every customer in March through my blog.
But even if he missed the point of the article, the thinking reflected in his comment is common online and understanding it will open new channels of income for you.
Here’s how…
The religious mantras of blogging right now are something like this:
- The Only Way to Make Money Blogging is to Sell Ads
- It Takes 1-2 Years to Make Money Blogging
- Passive Marketing is the Only Acceptable Way to Make Money Blogging
- The Way Your Blog Should Make Money is the Same as the Way the A-List Blogs Make It
How does this help you make money? Here’s how:
Your competition (yeah, bloggers have competition) believes all those things are true. They hear them over and over again. Even when someone shows them these beliefs are false (like I did with my post Tuesday) they hold to their irrational belief. “That doesn’t count” they say.
Since your competition refuses to believe there are any other ways to make money on their blogs, they aren’t creating competition for much of anything OTHER than advertising. That’s why ad prices are so low–high supply and low demand.
If you take the time to follow the tips I gave you in my March earnings report, you’ll do better and capture the dollars they are leaving on the table.
Get a product. Capture leads. Use active marketing.
It works. It has worked for hundreds of years. It will work for hundreds of years to come. Even on blogs.

Sudarshan,
Thanks for the comment.
If a blogger takes advantage of all of the income opportunities out there they will make income much more quickly than if they wait for it to happen in just one area.
