When it comes to Google SEO I like to focus on getting other sites to give you “content based” links to the page you want to target. But here’s a tip you can put to work on YOUR site that will give you back links from your other pages.
Put your five most coveted keyword phrases onto your footer with links to the pages they represent.
It’s simple and most people can do it in five minutes. Here’s how:
All of us should have some “easy” to target terms, some “moderately hard” terms and some “hard” keyword phrases. I reserve my footer space for the top keyword phrases–the five I want to get solid position for long-term.
Make a list of the EXACT PAGE you want to score highly for that particular term. While I have “make money blogging” as a phrase targeted toward my main page, I have other terms linking to various pages and categories on internal pages on my site.
As a long-term principle it’s probably best to not link to your main page using a bunch of different terms. Not only does that dilute the value of each link, it’s likely Google sees that as a “spammy” practice (which it is.)
If you can do some basic HTML go head and edit your footer in the Theme Editor. If not, let me know and I’ll help.
Once you have completed these three steps you will have links on EVERY page of your site pointing back to your pages with your very best keyword phrase.
