Take a second and think about your blog: What makes your blog unique to your potential viewers?
The only way to build a huge following and the income that accompanies that following is to offer something either no one else is offering.
But be careful: What you THINK is unique may not be unique at all. Here are some things that AREN’T unique about your blog…
- You are not unique (unless you have a particular unique experience or expertise.)
- Your opinions are not unique (opinions are like…oh, you get it.)
- Your blog design is not unique (even if your mom says it is.)
- Your content copied and commented from other prominent bloggers is not unique (THEY may have unique content, but your copy has, well, been done.)
So how can you be unique? Any one or more of the following will make you unique:
- Exceptional Insight - This is rare, but there are those who write about a topic with such exceptional insight they become a unique voice. But be careful, you are not likely to be that person!
- Exceptional Humor - In almost any niche there is room for humor, parody and funny commentary. Again, it must be exceptional and most of us are just not that funny.
- Exceptional Experience - Did you lose 100 lbs eating chocolate bunny ears (the calories are all in the body–the ears are almost calorie free)? Then you will gain a following. Climb Mt. Everest on your hands? Ditto.
- Exceptional Expertise - Are you an expert at getting monkeys to re-enact the Civil War? Write a blog and other monkey re-enactors will follow you in cute little blue and gray caps.
- Exceptional Approach - As far as I know I am the only blogger teaching Lead Blogging. Never heard of lead blogging? Hang around and you will. If you have a different approach than other bloggers in a niche, you can gain a following.
- Exceptional Information - Common information is, well, common. If you have access to unique information or you can pull together information from a number of sources and put it into an easy to digest format, you will likely find a following.
- Exceptional Value - Offering something for free that normally people have to purchase is one way to create a unique blog. But be careful: At some point someone needs to buy something or no one makes money.
- Exceptional Placement - If you have none of the other exceptional characteristics above, one can trump them all: Top search position for a high volume Google search phrase. This guarantees a consistent influx of new visitors, though whether they come back probably depends on one of the other characteristics.
So, how ’bout it? What’s your blog’s unique offering? Let me know below…
